Hey there!

I’m Tengfei Chang (常腾飞), an Assistant Professor at HKUST (GZ) in the IoT Thrust, Information Hub.

I grew up in Julu (巨鹿), a small town in northern China. My academic journey took me south to Changsha for my Bachelor’s degree, then back north to Beijing for my PhD. During my PhD, I had the opportunity to live and work internationally—in 2014, I was a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley in the Bay Area, California, and in 2015, I worked as a Research Engineer at Inria, France, in Paris. After earning my PhD, I continued at Inria as a postdoctoral researcher.

Driven by curiosity about industry applications, I later co-founded a startup focused on logistics item tracking, based in Mountain View, California. In 2023, I transitioned back to academia, bringing my industry experience and new research interests to the HKUST (GZ), the Guangzhou campus of HKUST, where I now serve as an Assistant Professor in the IoT Thrust, Information Hub.

My expertise lies in low-power wireless technologies, networking, and embedded system design. I have led key projects such as OpenMoteSTM, OpenWSN, and SCuM. Additionally, I have a strong interest in networked robotics, UAVs, and control systems.

If you share similar interests, feel free to reach out—I’d love to connect!
